Wire drawing dies are tools used to reduce the diameter of metal wire step-by-step until the desired size is achieved. They are widely used in industries such as electronics, electrical engineering, automotive manufacturing, and construction to produce wires made of copper, aluminum, stainless steel, and other metals. Manufacturing technology for these dies spread domestically in 1982; the country's largest polycrystalline diamond (PCD) wire drawing die-with a diameter of 35 mm-was produced in 2005; and a fully automatic ultrasonic processing machine was developed in 2019.

The die consists of a casing and a core; the core's profile comprises an inlet/lubrication zone, a working zone, a sizing zone, and an outlet zone. Materials used include natural diamond, cemented carbide, polycrystalline diamond (PCD), CVD diamond, ceramics, and steel.
